Bu araştırmada, derslerde karikatür kullanımının öğrencilerin akademik başarılarına olan etkisini, deneysel yöntemler kullanarak ne düzeyde olduğunu ortaya koyan çalışmaların etki büyüklük değerlerinin, meta-analiz yöntemi ile birleştirerek toplam etkisinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla, Yüksek Öğrenim Kurumu (YÖK) Ulusal Tez Merkezi veri tabanında yayınlanan, erişime açık olan doktora ve yüksek lisans tezleri taranmıştır. Bu kapsamda karikatürün akademik başarı üzerindeki etkisini inceleyen, 2005-2021 yılları arasında yapılmış olan 48 adet tez incelenerek, meta-analize dahil edilme ölçütlerine uygun olan 17 adet deneysel çalışma analize dahil edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde CMA istatistik programından yararlanılmıştır. Bu çalışmamızda deneysel çalışmalardan verilerin toplanmasından dolayı standartlaştırılmış ortalama farka dayalı analizler gerçekleştirilmiştir Etki büyüklükleri aritmetik ortalama, standart sapma ve örneklem büyüklükleri kullanılarak hesaplanmış ve sonuçlar Cohen’d etki büyüklüklerine göre yorumlanmıştır. Yayın yanlılığının hesaplanmasında huni saçılım grafiğinin incelenmesinin yanında, Orwin’in Güvenli N hesaplaması, Duval ve Tweedie’nin Kırpma ve Doldurması, Egger’in regresyon testi ve Begg ve Mazumdar sıra korelasyon testleri de incelenmiştir. Çalışmaya dahil edilen tezlerin etki büyüklüklerinin yüksek düzeyde heterojen dağılım gösterdiğinin kanıtlanması sonucunda (Q=78.179 I2=79.534 p<.005), araştırma rasgele etkiler modeli dikkate alınarak analiz edilmiştir. Rasgele etkiler modeli sonuçlarına göre karikatür kullanımı ile öğrencilerin akademik başarıları arasındaki ilişki geniş düzeydedir (ES=1.066 p<.005). Araştırmaya dahil edilen çalışmaların ders türü, karikatür türü, uygulama süresi ve sınıf düzeyi değişkenlerinin karikatür ile akademik başarı arasındaki ilişkide, sınıf düzeyinin ve uygulama süresinin moderatör rolüne sahip olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
In this research, it is aimed to determine the total effect of the effect size values of the studies that reveal the effect of the use of cartoons in the lessons on the academic achievement of the students by using experimental methods, and the total effect by combining them with the meta-analysis method. For this purpose, doctorate and master's theses published in the Higher Education Institution (YÖK) National Thesis Center database and open to access were scanned. In this context, 48 theses, which were made between 2005-2021, examining the effect of cartoons on academic achievement, were examined, and 17 experimental studies that were suitable for inclusion criteria in the meta-analysis were included in the analysis. CMA statistics program was used in the analysis of the data. In this study, due to the collection of data from experimental studies, analyzes based on standardized mean difference were performed. Effect sizes were calculated using arithmetic mean, standard deviation and sample sizes, and the results were interpreted according to Cohen'd effect sizes. In addition to examining the funnel scatterplot in the calculation of publication bias, Orwin's Safe N calculation, Duval and Tweedie's Trimming and Filling, Egger's regression test and Begg and Mazumdar rank correlation tests were also examined. As a result of the proof that the effect sizes of the theses included in the study showed a high level of heterogeneous distribution (Q=78.179; I2=79.534; p<.005), the research was analyzed by considering the random effects model. According to the results of the random effects model, the relationship between the use of cartoons and the academic achievement of the students is wide (ES=1.066; p<.005). It was concluded that the variables of course type, cartoon type and grade level of the studies included in the research had a moderator role in the relationship between cartoon and academic achievement
