This study examined the effects of the folkloric herbal extract Ankaferd Blood Stopper (ABS) used as a hemostatic agent in traditional Turkish medicine on the healing of full-weight skin wounds. In total, 36 runs were used in the study. In the back area of all rats, skin wounds were formed with a 5 mm punch biopsy. The rats were divided into 3 groups in order to be 12 rats in each group. The group 1 rats are locally given ABS solution twice a day, the group 2 rats are also given madecassol twice a day, while the group 3 rats are not treated. On the 7th and 14th days of the study, each group was carried out for macroscopic measurements of the wound areas. Although the wound areas in Group 1 and 2 closed faster than in Group 3, statistically there was no distinction. For histopathological examinations, tissue samples in the wound area were taken to evaluate epitelization, granulation tissue formation and fire cell infiltration. The histopathological assessments found statistically significant differences between the groups. As a result, ABS, a natural product, has been found to be a safe drug, does not have any adverse effects on the healing of the wounds and can be used effectively and safely on the full layer skin wounds. However, additional studies are needed to evaluate the clinical and histopathological benefits and potential adverse effects of ABS on wound healing.
