In the study, the impact of the transport factor to contribute to a more viable world is great, and the carbon footprint tracking of the flexible and rigid surfaces has been carried out. Environmental impact throughout the lifecycle of flexible and smooth road applications is carbon footprint tracking with ISO 10440 and ISO 14044 standard methods. Theoretical calculations are made using the IPCC methodology. According to the European Bitum Union, ASMUD (Association of Asfalt Contractors) and the European Beton Union Measurement Combinations Method, the first and secondary carbon footprint tracking has been studied for the comparison of flexible and rigid surfaces. The asphalt and ride road construction period and recovery CO2 schemes and tables have been arranged. The results are listed in the highways agency carbon calculation tool table. The comparison was found that the construction of asphalt roads and in the 1st year end there was less carbon emissions than the cement concrete road. But 2.35% fuel savings resulted in 5.8 tons less CO2 emissions each year compared to asphalt road. In light of the measured measurements and research, the theoretical outcome we have taken into account when taking into account carbon emissions and carbon recovery (recovery) has also shown that accordingly 2.35% fuel savings, carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction, the concrete path is more sustainable.
In this study, the carbon footprint of flexible and rigid pavements has been monitored to contribute to a liveable world. The environmental impact of flexible and rigid road pavements’ carbon footprint throughout the entire life cycle has been monitored in accordance with the standard methods ISO 10440 and ISO 14044. Afterwards, theoretical calculations have been made using IPCC method. The primary and secondary carbon footprints for flexible and rigid pavements have been obtained using European Bitumen Association, European Union Asphalt Contractors Association and European Concrete Union Measurement Combinations methods and compared each other. Produced CO2 by construction phase and recovered CO2 afterwards, of the flexible and rigid pavements, have been listed in tables and the results are demonstrated in the Highways Agency Carbon calculation tool. As a result, flexible roads have less carbon footprint at the end of the first year after the construction. However, because of the fuel saving ratio of 2.35%, less than 5,8 tons of CO2 has been released each year compared to the flexible pavements. Consequently, when both, carbon emission and recovery, and 2.35% fuel saving rate are taken into consideration, the rigid pavement is a better and sustainable choice.
