Abstract:

The tourism sector in Turkey has shown significant development since 1980 and has become one of the most important sectors in the development process of the Turkey economy. In this study, TÜIK has taken advantage of the 2012 entry-out tables last published and revealed the relationships with the tourism sector, energy and other sectors. The results of the analysis show that the tourism industry is highly integrated due to the intense data of goods and services purchases with food manufacturing, other services and trade sectors. The agriculture and energy sectors are ranked fourth and fifth in the tourism sector respectively. In the tourism sector, which is an important energy consumer, energy savings and alternative energies are important for sustainable tourism and/or growth. In-depth analyses show that the tourism sector has a very high potential for jobs and income in the country’s economy compared to other sectors. Therefore, in the fight against unemployment, the tourism sector has a separate importance.

Tourism sector in Turkey has shown important progress since 1980, and has become leading sector in Turkish economic development process. In this study, the latest 2012 InputOutput tables of Turkstat were used and relations of tourism sector with energy and other sectors were revealed. The results of the analysis show that tourism industry is highly integrated with food manufacturing, other services and trade sectors due to intensified exchange of goods and services. Agriculture and energy sectors provide inputs tourism sector with the fourth and fifth place respectively. In the tourism sector, which is an important energy consumer, energy saving and green energies are important in terms of sustainable tourism and/or growth. Inputoutput analysis show that the tourism sector’s employment and income generation potential in the national economy is quite high compared to other sectors. Therefore, tourism sector has a special importance in mitigation of unemployment in the country
