Abstract:

Evaluation of the balance and risk of fall in patients with plant phasicitis syndrome
2019

Abstract:

Purpose: We aimed at exploring the effects of plant phasicitis syndrome on the risk of balance and fall in patients. Instrument and Method: 50 patients diagnosed clinically with plantar phasitis were included in the study. In our study, the pain of patients was assessed by the visual analog scale (VAS). Measurements were made with the Biodex Balance system for the assessment of balance and fall risk. Postural stability (PS) and falling risk (DR) were statically and dynamically measured as total score (TS), antero-posterior (AP) and medio-lateral (ML). 19 healthy volunteer control groups were joined to work as non-active and previously diagnosed plantar phasitis/calkaneal spur. Results: The average VAS value in the plant phasitis group was 6.65±1.84. There was no statistical difference between the average age and body mass index of patients and control groups (p>0,05). The values of TS2 (p=0,005), TS8 (p=0,009), AP2 (p=0,006), AP8 (p=0,018), DR2 (p=0,01) and DR8 (p=0,002) found statistical differences in favour of the control group. There was no difference between the statistical and dynamic mid-later balance assessments. Result: These findings indicate that postural balance is deteriorated in patients with plantar phasitis syndrome, especially in the antero-posterior level, and the risk of falling increases.
