Abstract:

Purpose: Cyphoplasty is an initiative procedure that can help relieve pain in vertebral compression fractures and strengthen structural integrity. Different anesthetic techniques are used for this process. This study aims to investigate the ideal anesthesia technique for PKP. Materials and Methods: Our prospective, non-randomized study was carried out between January 2022 and June 2022. Patients were divided into three groups as the general anesthesia group, the local anesthesia group, and the epidural anesthesia group. Perioperative pain and complications were assessed. Results: 40 patients were taken to the study due to the breakdown of the vertebral compression in our center. As the number of patients under general anesthesia is very small, the patient group concerned is only indicated in identificative statistics and not taken to be evaluated in comparative statistics. In the local anesthesia group, pain is tolerable at all timing points, with 25% of serious complications occurring. Four patients needed intensive care after surgery. In the epidural anesthesia group, pain occurs during trocar entrance (mediate visual analog scale = 2), while no pain occurs in other timings. The rate of complications was lower than the local anesthesia group, there was no need for intensive care follow-up. The result: Epidural anesthesia is a safe anesthesia technique for peruvian phyphoplasty. Postoperative analgesia is beneficial from local anesthesia in relation to the low rate of complications and the need for a postoperative intensive care unit. But anesthesia is disadvantaged in terms of time and cost. Comorbidity can be considered a suitable anesthetic technique in single-level phytoplasty operations.
