Abstract:

In master's and doctoral theses prepared to compile and identify the phonology, morphology, syntax features and vocabulary of Turkish dialects of Turkey, a dictionary section is usually included. While the dictionary parts are handled with a certain seriousness in doctoral theses based on specialization, in master's theses, carelessness, inattention, and overlooking or neglecting the essential elements of a dictionary could be encountered. An important deficiency in dialect lexicography is the failure to specify the parts of speech, such as nouns, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, and verbs, in the dictionary section in brackets and how much details will be given to them according to which criterion. Although there is no definite criterion in this regard, in practice, this is shaped according to the compiled texts, the phonology, morphology, vocabulary in the analysis section and the preference of the advisor and the author. In the existing theses, it is seen that the dictionary section predominantly includes nouns, while other types of words are often neglected; and one of these word types is compound verbs. In the conducted master's theses, it is seen that candidates give less space to compound verbs. In this study, using the situational description method, the dictionary sections of 20 master's theses conducted in the field of dialects in various universities between 2012-2022 have been examined in terms of their treatment of compound verbs and evaluated numerically.
