Bu çalışmada, Evliya Çelebi’nin Seyahatnâme adlı eserinde geçen Bitlis şehri ile ilgili yer adları ele alınmış ve coğrafi bir bakış açısıyla değerlendirilmiştir. XVII. yüzyılda yazılmış olan Seyahatnâme kültür, tarih ve coğrafya açısından önemli bir eserdir. XVII. yüzyılda Bitlis şehri ile ilgili doyurucu bilgiler veren Seyahatnâme, kültürel ve tarihi coğrafya araştırmaları için zengin bir kaynaktır. Çalışmada, Bitlis şehrindeki yer adlarının XVII. yüzyıl ile günümüzdeki yapısı irdelenmiş, adlandırmada etkili olan unsurlar ele alınmıştır. Çalışmanın temel amacı, Bitlis şehrindeki yer adlarını inceleyerek yakın geçmişten günümüze yörenin tarihi ve kültürel coğrafyasına ait bazı izleri ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışmada elde edilen bulgulara göre Seyahatnâme’de geçen yer adlarının bir kısmının günümüzde kullanılmadığı, bazı yer adlarının değişime uğradığı, bazılarının ise olduğu gibi kullanıldığı anlaşılmaktadır. Ayrıca ilgili eserde yer adlarının isimlendirilmesinde dini öğeler ile kişi, soy, aşiret isimlerinin adlandırmada etkili olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak Seyahatnâme’nin toponimik açıdan zengin bir kaynak olduğu ve Bitlis şehrinin tarihi ve kültürel coğrafyasına ışık tuttuğu anlaşılmaktadır.

In this study, place names related to the city of Bitlis mentioned in Evliya Çelebi's book Seyahatnâme were handled and evaluated from a geographical point of view. Seyahatnâme was written in the seventeenth century and is an important work in terms of culture, history and geography. Seyahatnâme, a rich source for cultural and historical geography research, XVII. century gives satisfactory information about the city of Bitlis. In the study, the seventeenth century and the present structure of the place names in the city of Bitlis were examined, and the factors that were effective in naming were discussed. The main purpose of the study is to examine the place names in the city of Bitlis and to reveal some traces of the historical and cultural geography of the region from the recent past to the present. According to the findings obtained in the study, it is understood that some of the place names in the Seyahatnâme are not used today, some names have changed, and some are used as they are. In addition, it has been determined that religious elements and person, lineage and tribe names are effective in naming place names in Seyahatnâme. As a result, it is understood that Seyahatnâme is a toponomically rich source and sheds light on the historical and cultural geography the city of Bitlis.
