Abstract:

Frequency and indications of unrecepted drug use in Turkey
2019
Author:
Abstract:

The main objective of this study is to analyze the prevalence of non-recept drug use in Turkey for the period 2008-2016 and the socio-economic and demographic determinants of the "Health Research" micro-data sets obtained from the Turkish Statistical Bureau. For this purpose, the data set concerned was analyzed using the logistical regression method. The results from the analysis indicate that individuals between the ages of 25 and 44 years of age, women, with lower income levels, living in the countryside and having a good health condition, are more likely to use prescription-free drugs. The results of the study show that there is a meaningful relationship between the use of prescription drugs and socio-economic factors, and in this context it is a guideline to policy makers. Furthermore, the work period also includes the policy of "Intelligent Drug Use" which began to be implemented in Turkey, allowing the effect of the application to be analyzed and discussed. This study has the characteristic of being the first study that studies the prevalence of prescription drug use in Turkey and determines them with a set of data representative at the national level and in this sense it also contributes to the literature and the policy makers in the context of the results achieved.

Further, since the study period covers the “Rational Drug Use” policy in Tukey, the effects of such policy is also analysed and discussed.
