Amaç: Bu araştırma, hemşirelerin üriner kateter ve katetere ilişkin enfeksiyonları önlemeye yönelik bilgi ve tutumlarını belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı türde olan bu araştırmanın evrenini bir ildeki eğitim ve araştırma hastanesinde görev yapmakta olan hemşireler oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada örneklem seçimine gidilmemiş olup, çalışmaya gönüllü olarak katılan ve ulaşılabilen 131 hemşire ile çalışma tamamlanmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri Nisan-Mayıs 2019 tarihleri arasında, hemşirelerin sosyo-demografik özelliklerini içeren tanımlayıcı soru formu ve Kateter İlişkili Üriner Sistem Enfeksiyonları Kontrol Önlemleri Ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde sayı, yüzde, ortalama, Mann Whitney-U ve Kruskall Wallis testi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Hemşirelerin %35.1’inin 35 yaş ve üzeri, %87’sinin kadın, %60.3’ünün lisans mezunu olduğu belirlenmiştir. Araştırma kapsamına alınan hemşirelerin %24.4’ünün çalışma süresinin 6-10 yıl arası olduğu ve %53.4’ünün kateter ilişkili üriner sistem enfeksiyonları hakkında eğitim aldığı saptanmıştır. Hemşirelerin ölçekten ortalama 62.18±7.11 puan aldıkları belirlenmiştir. Yaş, cinsiyet, eğitim durumu, çalışma süresi gibi değişkenlerin hemşirelerin üriner kateter ve katetere ilişkin enfeksiyonları önlemeye yönelik bilgi ve tutumlarını etkilemediği bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Araştırma kapsamına alınan hemşirelerin yarıdan fazlasının kateter ilişkili üriner sistem enfeksiyonları hakkında eğitim aldıkları ve üriner kateter ve katetere ilişkin enfeksiyonları önlemeye yönelik bilgi ve tutumlarının yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Üriner kateter ve üriner sistem enfeksiyonlarını önlemeye yönelik hizmet içi eğitimlerin artırılması ve sürekliliğinin sağlanması önerilebilir.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify nurses’ knowledge and attitudes towards prevention of infections with urine catheter and catheter. Method: The universe of this research, which is a characteristic type, has been formed by nurses who work in an educational and research hospital in a province. The study did not go to sample selection and the study was completed with 131 nurses who participated voluntarily and were accessible. The data of the study was collected between April-May 2019, using the identifying question form containing the socio-demographic characteristics of nurses and the scale of measures for the control of catheter-related urinary system infections. In the analysis of the data, the number, percentage, average, Mann Whitney-U and Kruskall Wallis test were used. 35% of nurses. One of them is 35 years and older, 87 percent are women and 60.3 percent are graduates. The study found that 24.4 percent of nurses had a working time of 6-10 years and 53.4 percent received training on catheter-related urinary system infections. The nurses received an average of 62.18±7.11 points. Variants such as age, gender, educational status, working time have not been found to affect nurses' knowledge and attitude towards prevention of infections related to urine catheter and catheter. Results: More than half of the nurses involved in the study found that they were trained about catheter-related urine system infections and that they had high knowledge and attitudes towards prevention of infections related to catheter and catheter. It may be recommended to increase and ensure continuity of service training to prevent urine catheter and urine system infections.
Aim: This study was undertaken to explore the knowledge and attitudes of nurses about urinary catheter and prevention of catheter-associated infections. Method: The population of this descriptive study was composed of nurses who worked at a training and research hospital in a province. The study utilized no sampling method, and 131 nurses who volunteered to join the study and were contacted were recruited for the study. The data of the study were collected using a descriptive questionnaire that addressed nurses’ socio-demographic characteristics and Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) between April and May 2019. In the analysis of the data; numbers, percentages, means, Mann Whitney-U test and Kruskall Wallis test were used. Results: 35.1% of the nurses were aged ≥35 years, 87.0% of them were female and 60.3% of them had undergraduate degrees. 24.4% of the participating nurses had a work-length of 6-10 years and 53.4% of them received training about catheter-associated urinary system infections. It was identified that nurses had an average score of 62.18±7.11. It was identified that such variables as age, sex, educational status, work-length did not affect nurses’ urinary catheter and catheter-associated infections. Conclusion: It was found that more than half of the participant nurses received training about catheter-associated urinary system infections and showed a high level of knowledge and attitudes about urinary catheter and prevention of catheter-associated infections. It may be recommended that the number of on-job trainings about preventing catheter-associated infections be elevated and continued.
