Abstract:

The National Outlook Movement is a political-social movement which aim to produce policy by prioritizing Islamic sensitivity in Turkey in the 1970’s. The movement can be analyzed in terms of its impact on the last 50 years of Turkish political life by dividing it into certain periods. In this context between the 1969 and 1980 should be described as the early period of National Outlook Movement. The aim of this study is to make a comprehensive assessment of the political-social identities of the National Outlook Movement parties, -the National Order Party (NOP) and the National Salvation Party (NSP)-, and to answer the question of where these two parties can be positioned in the Islamism-conservatism dilemma. For this purpose, first of all, the ideas of Islamism and conservatism were analyzed comparatively, and then the political developments in Turkey in the 1970s were analyzed in the context of the National Outlook Movement. Finally, it is aimed to make an evaluation about the political identity of the early period National Outlook Movement by making use of the basic texts of NOP and NSP and the speeches of Necmettin Erbakan.
