Abstract:

The aim of this study is to try to understand the experience of professional musicians with the strategies that can be used when learning piano music. In this context, the pianists have studied what the attention, repetition, understanding-organization, understanding-tracking strategies and sensual strategies are used when learning a work. The work group consists of 6 pianists. The design of the study is the phenomenology of the quality research methods. The data was collected through a semi-configured interview form consisting of 22 questions. The interview form "The scale of the learning strategies used in the piano lesson" (Kılınçer and Aydıner-Uygun, 2013) was created by transforming the articles into semi-configured open end questions. According to the results of the study, the participants’ experience with attention strategies was found to be gathered under the themes of making labels on the notes and using visual images. The experience of the participants in the repetition strategies has been determined to be gathered under the themes of repetition, memorization and daily work-exercise. The experience of participants in understanding-organizing strategies has been found to be gathered under the themes of the establishment of similarity-difference relationship, association with old learning, detail-analysis, grouping, technical structure-character study and slow play. The experience of participants in understanding-tracking strategies has been determined to be gathered under method determination, error recognition-interrogation, difficulties determination, efforts to improve, self listening/ listening to others and time control themes. Finally, it was found that the participants’ experiences of sensory strategies were gathered under the themes of providing concentration, discipline, loving work, anxiety, feeling-imagination.
