Abstract In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effects of strategic purchasing behaviors of thermal hotels on company performance. Semi-structured interview method, which is one of the qualitative study methods, was used to collect data in the study. The managers of the purchasing departments of seven five-star thermal city hotels in Afyonkarahisar were interviewed. Purposive sampling method was used in the selection of the participants included in the study. Based on the findings of the study, it has been stated that strategic purchasing has a direct effect on the hotel businesses “on the existence of the purchasing department, the cost-benefit analysis performed during the purchase, the supplier selection and process, its effect on customer satisfaction, and the environmental benefit in terms of ecological and economic aspects”. Although the hotel's purchasing department managers are aware of strategic purchasing practices, they implement more traditional purchasing methods by developing effective supplier relations within the framework of cost-benefit analysis. It is predicted that hotel businesses that make strategic purchasing decisions can reach the desired level of customer satisfaction, as well as cost advantage, competition and supply processes, when compared to hotel businesses that implement traditional purchasing methods.
