An 82-year-old woman with a diagnosis of chronic ischemic stroke was unable to adapt conventional treatment, and her independency decreased. She received Halliwick exercise for 45-minutes two days per week in eight weeks. Timed Up and Go (TUG) test was used for functional level, balance was evaluated with Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and Barthel was used to measure performance in activities of daily living. Mental adjustment and variation of rotational control steps of Halliwick method were used in a 1.30 cm depth and 320 C the water temperature pool. In the initial assessment the scores of TUG test was 102 seconds whereas BBS and Barthel index were 6 and 15 consecutively. Following the treatment TUG test was completed in 80 seconds, while BBS and Barthel scores were 16 and 40. Aquatic treatment methods have been applied safely without any side effect in this case. Additionally the trunk control and balance of the case were significantly increased. Keywords: Halliwick, Stroke, Geriatrics, Immobile.

Abstract:

The Halliwick Method's Effects on the Balance and Functional Level in Infectious Geriatric Patients Summary The purpose of this study is to study the effects of the Halliwick Method on the Balance and Functional Level in an Infectious Geriatric Event. Chronic ischemic stroke was not adjusted to the conventional treatment diagnosed and a 82-year-old woman, who increased the level of addiction, was selected as a patient phenomenon. The functional level of maturity was assessed by the Time Rise Walk Test (ZKY) and the balance level by the Berg Balance Scale (BDÖ) and the level of independence in daily life activities by the Barthel Index. During eight weeks, two days a week, 45 minutes, at a pool at a depth of 1.30 cm and at a temperature of 320 C, the Halliwick method was applied to mental harmony and different rotation control steps. In the first assessment, the ZKY test of the result was 102 seconds, while the results of the BDÖ and Barthel Index were recorded as 6 and 15 points respectively. The result; after treatment, he completed the ZKY test in 80 seconds, 16 points from BDÖ and 40 points from Bathel Index. The Halliwick method has been safely applied in this case without creating any side effects. However, the post-treatment has led to significant improvements in body control and balance of the phenomenon.
