Abstract:

The article deals with the language and verbal communication as an important constituent part of the culture of any nation. Verbal communication is understood as the linguistic communication expressed in the exchange of ideas, information and emotional experiences of the interlocutors. The peculiarities of the western and eastern verbal communications are described. Proceeding from the established connection between language and thinking, it is affirmed that learning foreign languages is the acquisition of a new perspective, a new outlook. The necessity of studying not only the language but also the peculiarities of verbal communication and the culture of the people is postulated. It is supposed that learning foreign languages is the major factor in the formation of tolerance and overcoming ethnic stereotypes. The ethno-psychological features of some peoples representing different republics of the former Soviet Union - Latvians, Ukrainians, Uzbeks are considered. It is emphasized that the proverbs, sayings, epics, riddles, lullabies, etc. abound with the ideas of labor and moral upbringing that reflect the traditional values of these peoples. According to the authors, these nations are united by their knowledge of the Russian language, contacts with the Russian people, the desire to live and work in Russia.
