Abstract:

This study has been carried out to determine the empathic tendency and Job satis-faction of nurses and to examine the effect of empathy on work satisfaction. This s/udy is a descriptiue type researclı. The population was 738 nurses who have been working at the Ege University Hospital. The sample n=278 was stratified in relation to the clinics, and the educational levels of nurses. The dala have been coliected by three instruntents, the Emphatic Tendency Scale developed by Döknıen, the Job Satisfaction Form developed by Aksayan and f2 4 rs es description form developed by researchers. The results displayed that the rnean score of empaillic tendency of the nurses was 69.93.t8.40. It was fou►d that the empathic tendency of the nurses were relaied to the clinics where nurses work, the length of work in the clinic, their position at work. their opinions on the professional productivity, their letYel of understanding the patients and their healaı perceptions. The mem score of general job satisfaction was found to be 50.10±11.25. It was determined that the variables related to job satisfaction were; the clinics where nurses work. their state of preference of the profession. their eligibility for th e profession, ille satisfaction from their work place, the concept of resigning from the job and their health perceptiorts.
