Purpose: This is a descriptive and comparative research. It aims to define in detail the personal status variables of manager nurses, and to find an answer to the question, “Who are our manger nurses?” Method: The research was carried out simultaneously to another research conducted in Istanbul between 2001-2002 aiming to define administrative profiles of manager nurses. The scope of the research covered all manager nurses at Ministry of Health, Institute of Social Insurances, University and private hospitals with a bed capacity of 50 and above in Istanbul. 59 hospitals and all manager nurses from these hospitals that accepted to participate were included in the research scope without applying any of the sample selection methods. The research was conducted with 755 nurses in all administrative stages. Data gathering tool was developed by the researchers in light of the literature. The tool was handed out to and collected from the managers during face-to-face interviews after consents were received from the institutions. Findings: Of the manager nurses that participated the research, 66.9% were service responsible nurses, 54.6% were of ages 31-40, 48.5% were prelicense graduates, 29.4% had 15-19 years of professional experience, 41.6% had 4 or less years of management experience, 64% were married, 31.4% had two children and their children were mostly attending to primary schools, 26% were leaving their children in crèches, 46.3% had life standards above mediocre, 40.9% had computers mostly with an Internet connection, 45.7% did not have a car and participated social activities during their leisure time and spared less time for reading, 14.6% spared no time for reading, those who did preferred novels, they mostly preferred Turkish Classical and Folk music, went to a cinema only once a month, 30% read daily newspapers, mostly watched private channels, 69.6% chose the profession willingly, 69.9% of those who chose unwillingly worked for monetary reasons, there were no other nurse in the families of 69.8%, 51% were content with being a manager, however were unhappy with bureaucracy and administrative activities not included in her job description, 68.2% worked with the superiors from whom they got the promotion to the manager position and were in harmony with them, 81.3% were satisfied with their work, however 55.6% would chose to be a manager again. These attributes varied between hospitals. Result and suggestions: At the end of the research, manager nurses were defined to be older and to have better economical and social status, however, their intellectual attributes were poor. They had a more positive approach to their profession and were more satisfied
