Meryemana Dikeni Bitkisinin Kullanımının Eczacılık Ve Tıp Tarihi Açısından İncelenmesi

Avrupa'da ve Akdeniz ülkelerinde antik dönemlerden beri bilinen Meryemana dikeni, Almanya’da Meryem Ana’yı andıran bir dini simge olarak görüldüğü için bu ismi almıştır. Kızılderililer ise bu bitkiyi deve dikeni, kutsal diken ve okunmuş diken olarak isimlendirmişlerdir. Tohumları yaklaşık 2000 senedir karaciğer hastalıklarının tedavisinde kullanılan bir bitki olup, modern araştırmalar ve çalışmalar ile günümüzde karaciğer hastalıkları üzerine olumlu etkisi olduğu kanıtlanmıştır. Meryemana Dikeni tohumları % 1–6 oranında silibin, silidianin ve silikristin etken maddelerini ihtiva eden silimarin içermektedir. Meryemana dikeni tohumları yüzyıllardır çeşitli hastalıkların tedavisinde kullanılmaktadır. Bu tohumlar güçlü antioksidan ve hepatoprotektif etkili olup toksin zehirlenmeleri, hepatit, siroz, karaciğer fibrozu durumlarında karaciğerin rejenerasyonunu stimüle etmektedir. Ayrıca Meryemana dikeni tohumları antienflamatuvar ve immünmodülatör etki göstermektedir. Avrupa’da geçmişte geleneksel olarak pek çok hastalıkta kullanıldığı bilinen Meryemana Dikeni halk arasında astım, nezle, göğüs ağrısı, ödem, ateş, hepatit, sarılık, malarya, sıkıntı, spazm ve dalak gibi sağlık problemlerinde kullanılmaktadır. Bitki üzerinde dünyada birçok klinik çalışma yapılmış olup, bu bitkiyi içeren müstahzarlar Avrupa’da ve Türkiye’de eczanelerde ve marketlerde satılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada Meryemana dikeninin eczacılık ve tıp tarihi, farmakoloji, farmasötik botanik, farmakognozi alanlarında bilimsel incelemesi yapılarak, bitki çeşitli yönleriyle değerlendirilecektir.

In Europe and the Mediterranean countries, Mary's village, known since ancient times, has been named this name because it is seen as a religious symbol in Germany that resembles Mary's Mother. The Indians named this plant as a dwarf, sacred dwarf and read dwarf. The seeds are a plant that has been used in the treatment of liver diseases for 2000 years, and modern research and studies have proved to have a positive effect on liver diseases today. The seeds of Meryemana Dikeni contain 1-6% silibin, silidianin and silikristin. The seeds of Meryemana have been used for centuries in the treatment of various diseases. These seeds are strong antioxidant and hepatoprotective and stimulate the regeneration of the liver in cases of toxic poisoning, hepatitis, sirosis, liver fibrosis. In addition, the seeds of Meryemana are anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating. In Europe, it is known that it has traditionally been used in many diseases in the past, and is used among the people in health problems such as asthma, sickness, chest pain, swelling, fever, hepatitis, yellowness, malaria, discomfort, spasm and swelling. Many clinical studies on the plant have been conducted worldwide, and the ingredients containing this plant are sold in pharmacies and markets in Europe and Turkey. In this study, a scientific study in the fields of pharmacy and medical history, pharmacology, pharmaceutical botanics, pharmacognosis, will be evaluated by the various aspects of the plant.

“Saint Mary’s Thistle” named after Virgin Mary because of its reminiscent a religious symbol in Germany, was known since ancient times in Europe and the Mediterranean countries. The Native Americans called this plant “camel milk thistle”, “holy milk thistle” and “blessed milk thistle”. Seeds have been used in the treatment of liver diseases for almost 2000 years and its positive effect on liver diseases has proven as a result of modern research and studies. Seeds of St. Mary’s thistle contain 1 to 6% silymarin. Important compounds as silybin, silydianin and silicristin found in silymarin, which is responsible for pharmacological action. Seeds of St. Mary’s thistle have been used for the treatment of various diseases for centuries. These seeds have a strong antioxidant and hepatoprotective effect. It stimulates the regeneration of the liver in cases of toxin poisoning, hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver fibrosis. St. Mary’s seeds are also anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory. In Europe, it has traditionally been used in many diseases in the past. It is used among the people for asthma, common cold, chest pain, edema, fever, hepatitis, jaundice, malaria, distress, spasm and spleen problems. There are so many clinical trials around the globe were conducted about this plant, thus a lot of preparations containing this plant are being sold in pharmacies and grocery stores in Europe and Turkey. In this study, St. Mary’s thistle is scientifically evaluated in terms of history of medicine and pharmacy, pharmacology, pharmaceutical botany, pharmacognosy, also discussed in various aspects.
