Yerel halkın turizm konusundaki esas ilgi alanı, turizmin onların kişisel yaşamları üzerine olan etkisidir. Ancak planlı bir turizm gelişim modelinde turizm geliştirme stratejisine karşı halkın göstereceği tavır, sağlanacak yararların algılanmasından daha çok turizmin sosyo-ekonomik, kültürel ve çevresel etkilerinin algılanmasına bağlanmalıdır. Dolayısıyla planlı bir turizm gelişim modelinde önemli olduğunu düşündüğümüz yerel halk ve onların turizm eğilimleri çalışmamızın temel konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Bu bağlamda çalışmamızda, Van’da turizmin etkilerinin nasıl algılandığının yanı sıra, planlı bir çalışmaya temel oluşturacak sosyo-ekonomik ve kültürel etkilerin nasıl algılandığı katılarak bir sentez oluşturulmaya çalışılmıştır. Diğer bir ifadeyle turizmin, ilin sosyal, ekonomik ve kültürel yaşamına etkilerinin neler olacağını, yerel halkın turizme ne kadar açık olduğu ve var olan bütün coğrafi potansiyelin (doğal, beşeri, ekonomik) insan kaynakları ile turizmi ne oranda desteklediği ölçülmeye çalışılmıştır. Yapılan anket sonucunda ortaya çıkan tablo, yöre halkının turizme ve turiste bir çok açıdan pozitif baktığı şeklinde olmuştur. Dolayısıyla Van’ı veya bölgeyi kapsayacak bir turizm planlama çalışmasının başarılı olma şansı, bölge gerçeklerinin dikkate alınması şartı ile, oldukça yüksektir

Main interesting area of the local people on tourism is the impact of the tourism on their individual life. However, in the case of a planned tourism development model the reaction of people to the tourism development strategy must be ascribed to the perception of social and economic, cultural and environmental effect of tourism. Besides, it is necessity to provide participation of the local people in tourism planning. Presently, local people and their touristic tendency that we think are important for tourism development form the basic subject of our study. In the study that is dealt with in this context, it was tried to make a synthesis relating to the perception of social and economic and cultural effect of tourism that are essential a tourism planning study alongside with the fact that how to be sense the tourism effect in Van. In other words, how the tourism will affect the economic and cultural life of the province, how open the local people to the tourism and finally how all the geographical potential (physical, social and economic) with the human resource support the tourism have been tried to be measured. The conclusion of the survey done in Van represents that local people living in Van supports tourism activities and has positive ideas for the tourists. The possibility of a successful tourism study which comprise the whole province is very quite high if the regional reality is taken into consideration
