Illustrated texts are used for developing communicative and foreign language skills, and they contribute to a more active and careful grammar acquisition connected with daily life and oriented towards problem-solving. The aim of this study is to show that adapting illustrated texts such as comics, caricatures, ads, jokes, etc. as authentic material, is more efficient in improving grammar, reading and writing skills of foreign students at elementary and intermediate levels in terms of time spent and outcomes reached. Moreover, it presents a syllabus that shows how to use illustrated texts for teaching Turkish. This syllabus takes the variables of language into account as much as possible and draws attention to the standards of language through contextual and cultural utterances. Through illustrated texts from various genres it aims to make the varieties of language more comprehensible starting from the most basic part going, and thus, goes beyond the differences between written and oral language
