The Football is one of the most popular and practiced sports around the world, which during the game requires movements of speed and change of direction, which promotes a demand to the athlete. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to verify if there is a correlation between speed, agility and deficit in change of direction (COD deficit) in young male football athletes. The sample consisted of 12 football athletes, all male, aged between 14 and 16 years, in a club in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The athletes were submitted to agility tests (Zig-Zag COD), sprint (Vel20m) and from these two tests the COD deficit was calculated. The results of Pearson's correlation test showed a strong significant correlation (p>0.001; r= 0.81) between Vel20m and COD deficit. There was a moderate negative correlation (p=0.02; r= -0.68 between COD deficit and COD zig zag. It is concluded that the speed and agility variables collected in a field test, still during the Covid 19 period, in the months April and May 2021, have a correlation between COD deficit and sprint (vel20m).
