Bu makalenin ilgi odağı Osmanlı hanedanı Sultan II. Mehmed’in ölümüdür. Makalenin ilgi odağını çerçeveleyen ortamı ise II. Mehmed’in ölüm nedenine dair birtakım şüpheler oluşturmaktadır. Bu iki türlü ele alınabilir. Birincisi, hanedanın zehirlenerek öldürülmesi; ikincisi ise hastalığına bağlı olarak kendiliğinden gerçekleşen ölümüdür. Ancak ilginç şekilde II. Mehmed’in hangi gün ve hangi saatte öldüğü bilinmesine rağmen ölüm nedeni bilinmiyor. İlk kez Aşıkpaşazâde tarafından “şarab-ı fariğ” olarak tarif edilen şurubun ağrı kesici mi, ağrıyı alevlendirici mi, yoksa öldürücü etkiye sahip bir zehir mi olduğu konusu, II. Mehmed’in ölüm nedenine ilişkin şüpheleri artırmaktadır.
The focus of this article is the Ottoman dynasty Sultan II. The death of Mehmed. The focus of the article is II. There is a number of suspicions about the cause of Muhammad's death.
