Abstract:

The aim of the present study is to examine place attachment of youth centre members. For this purpose, descriptive survey model was used in the study. Population of the study consists of members of Youth Centres within the body of Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey, while the sample consists of 395 participants selected with by sampling method among members who participated in nature, sea or culture youth camps organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey. “Personal Information Form” developed by the researchers and “Place Attachment Scale” developed by Williams and Roggenbuck (1989) and adapted by Ayar et al. (2022) were used in the study as data collection tool. Student t-test, one-way analysis of variance and Tukey multiple comparison tests were used in the assessment of data obtained in the study. No significant difference was found in the variables of age, membership duration, number of siblings, family income and having a youth centre member in the family. However, significant difference was found in place identity factor and place attachment scale total score in the variable of gender, and in dependence on location and place identity factors and place attachment scale total score in the variables of frequency of visiting and the state of doing sports. It was found that the members who were male and who visited the centre every day had high mean scores. Thus, it can be stated that the service quality of activities of youth centres affect place attachment towards youth centre.
