Abstract:

In this study, research on migration from Türkiye to the UK has been examined and reports, books, postgraduate studies, articles, and sample cases have been reviewed through document analysis. Accordingly, the place of children in the UK child protection system has been described and examined with a specific focus on the situation in London. The political structure of the UK and the concentration of the Turkish migrant population in London have fixed the main focus of the study on London. The social integration problems of children in London, which has become a transnational space that has been ghettoized and politicized for Turks due to the multicultural environment in the UK, have been analysed through the meso (family, small groups, and communities) and macro (the place of Turkish migrant children in child policy) dimensions of the existing ecosystem theory. The socio-political reasons for migration from Türkiye to the UK have been discussed, and the UK’s immigrant child policy has been examined within the historical background. The analysed documents have been discussed from an ecosystem perspective and interpreted in the context of social cohesion and child protection system. The presence of structural problems such as ghetto culture, gang formation, substance use, language barriers, strong ethnic economy, and informal living highlight the inadequacy of the UK’s child protection system for Turkish migrant children in London. Recommendations have been made for the realization of social cohesion for Turkish migrant children in London.
