Abstract:

It is important to analyze the historical and contemporary religious movements inspired by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), which started out as a seemingly religious organization about fifty years ago and turned into a terrorist organization on July 15, and to determine its similar methods, in terms of the strategy of struggle and future projection. As a result of the scans made from the open sources that can be reached, no comprehensive study could be found that systematically addresses the similarities between organizations on this subject under multiple headings. With the data obtained from multiple open sources, the basic descriptive features of FETO were determined under forty-four headings, three of which were related to its history and 40 were related to its organizational structure. Within the framework of these determined features, it was aimed to systematically analyze and discuss the aspects of FETÖ, which are similar to the Shiite Assassins and Sunni Qadianis, in a tabular form. Being the first comprehensive and systematic evaluation on this subject constitutes the strength of the study. While the study showed similarities with FETO's Shiite-Nizari Assassins in thirty of the forty sub-headings, it showed similarity with Sunni-Hanefi Qadianis in twenty-eight sub-headings. This situation made us think that two completely different sectarian currents such as Shiite and Sunni did not differ in being the source of FETO, only some sub-titles were more dominant in an organization. Although they are in different geographical and socio-cultural environments, it is important to evaluate the current results of a fifty-year-old FETO organization showing such similarities with a thousand-year-old Shiite Assassins and one hundred- and fifty-year old Sunni Qadianis.
