Abstract:

In the original cultural landscape of the inner Anatolian geography, the distribution of settlement networks, road networks and totals, the determinability of natural topography and water objects, and the spatial continuity that has continued since the Ancient Age. In this framework, the Ankara Toulouse can be defined as the remaining objects of a cultural landscape that provides continuity on a regional scale, which today depicts the Ankara city boundaries and the historical settlement area. The assessment of the Ankara Toulouse in the framework of these continuities makes it necessary to see them first as values belonging to the city and the region, and then a comprehensive view of the city and its surroundings. Since the end of the century, it has been investigated and documented, and with the Republic, it has been handled by more than twenty tumulus, research and excavations left in the west of the city centre. After the 1950s, with the acceleration and spread of urbanization, the totalities that began to be removed from the city scene, have decreased and destroyed to the present day, have greatly lost the imagination of visual relationships with their main characteristics and have mostly remained unknown values. However, in the research that has been ongoing since 2010 the original appearance of the tumults is investigated through historic photographs and maps, and in these visual documents the existence of unknown tumults is detected. In this study, we are looking for answers to the questions about how the Ankara Tumulus, together with the environmental objects, showed their original form characteristics from the 1930s to the present day in the urban development processes and how they can contribute to today’s urban philosophy and life as public spaces. In this context, the theoretical framework offered by the current landscape and conservation speech and practice has been studied, the example is under conservation, the fields of tumulus have been studied. In light of these achievements, the conversion of the totulus-topoography-city relations has been evaluated through a recommended urban experience route in the field of the Western totus, where the assets can be traced. The visual relationships experienced on the route have been revealed from the 1930s to the present with series images of three periods and cuts of five periods. In this context, the urban potential offered by the tubular areas has been open to discussion.
