Gıda Tarım ve Hayvancılık Bakanlığı’nda Görev Yapan Veteriner Hekimlerde Mobbing (Yıldırma) Üzerine Bir Değerlendirme

Mobbing (intimidation) is described as mental violence, siege, abuse, disturbing or annoying. It includes all kinds of situations such as maltreatments, violence and humiliation which are used against the employees by their superiors or other workers on equal footing. Mobbing is an event which employees may be exposed to seen from time to time during their career lives and have no definite cause; the attitudes of mobbing can also be seen among all types of groups having competition and it is also determined that it played an important role especially in the evaluations executed and promotions in public and relations between colleagues and administrators. In the study, it was aimed to determine the occasions of mobbing which the veterinarians who work for the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock are exposed in Turkey. The population of this study includes the veterinarians who were employed in the institutions of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock as permanent employees. The provinces which samples will be taken to represent the population of the study has been chosen considering the geographical regions of Turkey and their representative capability and potential of the existence of participant groups which will form the samples and existence of the institutions of the Ministry. Those provinces were determined as Adana, Erzurum, İstanbul, İzmir, Konya, Samsun and Şanlıurfa and totally 630 veterinarians were interviewed. The participants were asked two basic questions related to mobbing and the relations between those two questions and demographic characteristics were analyzed. The data obtained at the end of the applied questionnaire through SPSS 20.0 statistical program related to frequency and chi-square analyzes tests. In the study, 11,7% of the participants stated that there was continuous mobbing in their offices while 51,7% of them stated an occasional mobbing; total 49,0% of the participants were reported to be somehow (in the past/at present) exposed to mobbing. In conclusion, it can be said that mobbing which has been gradually increasing in recent years and which is a concept to be struggle against by the institutions may negatively affect the business lives of the veterinarians working for the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock; the reasons of mobbing should be determined in order not to lose the reliance of the employees on the institutions and prestige of the institutions in the presence of their employees and permanent solutions should be found.
