Abstract:

Tales, which have an important place in oral folk literature products due to the rich material they carry are anonymous products that carry the material and moral values, traditions and belief system of the nation they belong to, and all kinds of cultural elements. Tales are formed by the combination of motifs, which are accepted as the smallest building block that can not be broken down. Fairy tales have continued their existence by spreading in different geographies for centuries. It was asked to compare the common points of the tales spread in these different geographies. Studies on fairy tales had previously developed only as the presentation of texts. However, when these texts were the subject of examination, some measues had to be taken to facilitate their use. The fact that the tales complied from different countries are mentioned with a common name or number in case similar takes come together made if easier to benfit from those tales. The “take type index” developed by Stith Thompson is used as a source for folklore analysis. In this study, 49 Turkısh Cypriot Tales, complied from various settlements were ordered according to Sttith Thompson’s Folk Literature Catalogue our aim is do guide the researchers who want to work in this field. The tales found in 49 tale texts compiled in the field were numbered according to the motif index. In the 49 fairy take texts we examined, no mythological or humorous motifs were found in the catalogue. Animal motifs, magic motifs, marvels are remarkable motifs. The abnormal cruelty motif is very rare.
