Abstract:

This article is part of the entry in the English translation of Ibn Rushd's work named Faslu'l-Makâl by Hourani. Hourani explains that the followers of philosophers are limited, but the teachings of the dictators are absolutely not accessible to the crowds, and that they are too sophisticated. According to the author, philosophy claims that about the bourgeois truth it is as something that can be gained by the mental disciplines by the Greek sciences. When the philosophers, instead of religious doctrines, and even at the expense of their replacement, expressed the bourgeois truth on the subjects of God and the universe, using the New Platonic and Aristotle concepts and terms, the dictators assumed their responsibility to play an important role in the defense of the religion, which is the cause of existence. This article briefly discusses the discussions between these two groups in the context of the philosophical-religious relationship.
