Abstract:

The tourism industry is a fast-growing industry today and has a great importance for the country’s economies. In addition to many positive effects of tourism, there are also negative effects. More tourists participate in tourism activities due to growth. This can also increase the negative impact of tourism on the environment. From here, the causal relationship between the ecological footprint and the growth of tourism, which is an indicator of environmental disruption in the study, has been studied. According to the 2020 data, the top 10 countries that attract most tourists in the world have been used data from the period 1995-2018. According to the results of the causality analysis, there is a bilateral causal relationship between ecological footprint (ECP) and the number of tourists (LnTS). It is therefore possible to say that the growth of tourism affects the environmental deterioration. In order to reduce this effect, it is important that sustainable tourism is the basis of the policies that will be created for sustainable development.
