Abstract:

Turkmen have been living in Iraq for more than a thousand year. Turkmen who where effectual during the administration Ottoman Empire, form the educative and intellectual part of Iraq society. The attitude of Iraq government towards Turkmen has changed a lot and followed unsettled motion. In Iraq governments, from the foundation of Iraq up to now the Arabians had recourse to assimilate Turkmen and especially after 1990 the Kurdish people tried several ways to assimilate Turkmen. Thousands of Turkmen suffered from the illegal and cruel application of Iraq governments. Turkmen always separated the country and the government of Iraq. They never fought against the country of Iraq, but they only protested the government of Iraq. After the construction of Iraq government, Turkmen, who stayed in Iraq country, struggled for their identification and existence. This attitude was a little bit different a social, economical and political according to the previous period to reject the new administration completely, but this could not be unable by their own feasibilities, it made them behave autistic. This attitude helped the government of Iraq who tried to eliminate the national existence of Turkmen in Iraq. In general, Turkmen chose peaceful methods in their political effort. Turkmen are also known as a nation who rejects the fighting using gun. They strive for their necessary defense. United States of America, after the occupation of Iraq, continued not to give the rights of Turkmen. After the occupation, United States of America tried to assimilate Turkmen in Iraq and Kirkuk city occupied by the forces of Barzani and Talabani. They made many Kurdish people live in the city. Turkmen, who have much expectancy from Turkey, only got a few of these expectancies. But Turkmen must not wait everything from Turkey and they must believe themselves and must not be oppressed by other forces
