Metinlerarasılık, edebî metnin kendinden önce yazılmış metinlerden izler taşıması şeklinde tanımlanır ve metin incelemelerinde sıklıkla kullanılan bir yöntemdir. Bu yöntemle bir yazar ya da şairin beslendiği kaynaklar gösterilirken bu kaynakların nasıl işlendiği de önem kazanır. Metinlerarası unsurlarla zenginlik ve çeşitliliğe kavuşan bir eser, tek bir metinden çok, bir metinler bütünüdür. Gülten Akın, İkinci Yeni şiirinin hüküm sürdüğü yıllarda yazmaya başlayan bir şairdir. Şiirlerinde giderek folklor ve halk edebiyatı unsurlarına daha çok yer vermiştir. Önsöz ve epigraflara yer verdiği şiirinde destan, türkü, ağıt gibi halk edebiyatı türlerini başlık olarak seçmiştir. Bu yolla yan-metinsellik ilişkisi kurulmuştur. Ana-metinsellik ise halk hikâyesi, masal, türkü ve ninnilerden parçalarla, deyiş ve atasözleri gibi anonim özellik taşıyan basmakalıp sözlerle sağlanmıştır. Şairin özellikle 1972-1983 yılları arasındaki şiirlerinde metin ve anlamlar, kendinden önceki metinlerin parçalarıyla, büyük ölçüde halk edebiyatı ve folklor ürünleriyle iç içe geçmiş, kaynaşmış bir görüntü sunmaktadır.
