Objective: At this study which we have determined cerebral palsy (CP) and poststroke hemiplegia, which is one of the most important morbidities in the world, as protoypes, we aimed to find out the level of depression and anxiety in caregivers of CP and hemiplegia patients; and to study the burden brought by patients at different age groups to their caregivers. Method: For this prospective study; 23 mothers giving care to their children with CP and 25 family members giving care to geriatric hemiplegic patients (GHP) were chosen. These two separate groups were given a sociodemographic data form, Zarit Burden Scale (ZBS), Beck Depression and Beck Anxiety Scales. Results: Mean age was significantly different between two groups; while gender difference did not show statistical significance. When two groups were compared, GHP’s caregivers showed significantly higher ZBS point than that of CP caregivers. There was no significant difference in Beck Depression and Beck Anxiety scale scores between two groups. Discussion: Giving care to a disabled relative causes significant anxiety, depression and burden. GHP bring higher burden to their relatives than children with CP.
