Abstract:

There have always been important days in the history of states’s and societies. After the military and political victories won in the historical process, certain days and dates were accepted as “National Holidays” and served as an important catalyst in the strengthening and transformation of states and societies, raising national consciousness, and ensuring social unity. In the history of the Republic of Turkey, October 29, 1923 is one of the important national days when the new regime of the new Turkish state was determined. The officialization of the republican regime by law and the celebration of the feast in this direction also aimed to reinforce the also feeling of belonging of the people to the regime. In this respect, as in many parts of the country, Republic Day celebrations were held in the provinces in the East with enthusiasm and excitement within the framework of a certain program. Republic Day celebrations in Mardin and Hakkâri were celebrated with the same enthusiasm and excitement. Especially due to the different codes of these two provinces, the central administration has given importance to such national holiday celebrations. Within the scope of the study, what was aimed and what was done in the Republic Day celebrations in Mardin and Hakkâri between 1934-1945 was mentioned, taking into account archives and official documents.
