Abstract:

Social and domestic issues predominate in Indo-Anglian literature. The literature of the Indo-Anglian diaspora differs from that of Anglo-Indian writers. The emergence of women writer in the Indo-Anglian Literature was a great revolution in the literary world. Among various popular woman writers, in this abstract, an attempt to a brief comparison of the working style, thematic development, depiction of ‘female entity’ and ‘idea of feminism’ in literary works done by Kamala Markandaya and Anita Desai has been made through their novels. The comparative research of the writers on the Concept of Indian females, as a person and as a wife as well as parents also will have shed light on a number of factors of Indian Culture and Tradition. Both the writers have depicted the actual pictures of females of the contemporary Indian Society. The selected novels for this research paper of these two writers will have been explored to evaluate the primary features about the livelihood, social status, wamoanhood, motherhoodand midlife of Indiand women as a wife, a sister and a mother as well.Kamala Markandaya is amongst the most accomplished women novelists of Indo- Anglian literature. All her works have an appeal to the themes of conflict between east-west values of tradition vs modernity. In her novel Some Inner Fury (1955), she depicts the troubled relationship between an Indian woman with well educated background and her brother, a British civil servant who loves her. Anita Desai is also one of the major shining stars among the Indian female writers. Her characters are portrayed not only through virtual iagery, but also through action dialogues and gesture as shown in Clear Light of Day (1980) which shows an evocative portrayal.
