This Paper introduces the experience of an online in-service teacher-training programme in China. An overview of distance education institutions in China is given, that leads to a discussion of the importance of learner support. With respect to teacher training, various challenges are discussed ; student-generated problems, administrative problems, and tutorgenerated problems. The Paper then analyzes the learner support problems occurring throughout this teacher-training programme, and makes suggestions for the further development of the programme.
