Introduction and Objective: The exercise intensity during competitive games of football can be indicated by the total distance traveled during the game. Thus, the aim of this study focuses on analyzing the distance covered by players in the 2014 World Cup, differentiating them for positions. Methods: 385 players divided into 4 groups were analyzed: goalkeepers (n = 38), defenders (n = 160), midfielders (n = 119) and offensive (n = 68). The data relating to the position and distance of each player in each game were consulted on-line form on the official fifa website (http://www.fifa.com.br). For descriptive analysis the values of mean and standard deviation were used. For the inferential analysis was used to oneway anova with post hoc scheffe. The significance level was 5%. The analyzes were performed in SPSS for windows 20.0. Results and Discussion: The results indicate that there are significant differences mediantes positions. The midfielders were those with the greatest distance 10.67 km, followed by offensive 10.12 km, 9.75 km defenders and goalkeepers last with 4.09 km. Conclusion: We conclude that the tactical role that the athlete is exercising requires specific conditioning for the demand of the game.
