Özet:

In this study, Soviet Russia's requests from Turkey in 1946 and the reflections of the mutual notes given between the two countries on the Ülke newspaper published in Sivas were examined. At the Potsdam Conference, which started on 17 July 1945, Soviet Russia demanded some territory and to have a say in the management of the Straits from Turkey. At the end of the conference, it was decided to notify Turkey about the thoughts on the subject by the state participating in the meeting. However, Soviet Russia did not act in line with this decision and brought its territorial demands to the agenda over the claims of Georgian historians before conveying its views to Turkey. In the notes given by Soviet Russia later, it was claimed that Turkey violated the Montreux Convention, it had a border of 2100 kilometers in the Black Sea, it was vital to ensure its own border security, therefore Soviet Russia should also play a role in ensuring the security of the straits. In its counter note, Turkey declared that it adhered to the Montreux Straits Convention and rejected the Soviet Russia demands that were contrary to its territorial integrity. Regarding these developments, Ülke newspaper published news on Turkey's reactions to the Soviet Russian notes and included the reflections of the notes in Turkey and in the world in its columns and carried the reactions and evaluations of foreign news agencies to its pages. Despite being a local newspaper, the fact that it covers issues related to national issues has made Ülke newspaper an important publication. For this reason, it was possible to follow the Turkish-Soviet relations in the said period from the newspapers.
