Özet:

The changes in the court life that had occurred after the Ottoman Dynasty wasrelocated in Dolmabahçe Palace during the second half of the 19th century had a certain effecton musical life in the court as well. The institutions in service of the court residents weretransformed in accordance with the standards of the new court resulting in a fundamentallydifferent organizational structure than that of the previous periods. In this structure, newensembles performing various musical genres were founded and served under Mûsikâ-yı Hümâyûn. This study focuses on one of these new ensembles that was commissioned toperform minstrel music (âşık mûsikîsi) namely, the Şâirân-ı Hâssa of which, in this article, we provide information regarding its structure (faculties) and staff based on relevant archivedocuments. This study has also unearthed some documents from the Ottoman Archives ofTurkish Prime Ministry about the members of the said ensemble. In conclusion, this studyaims to inform the reader on the performance style of the Şâirân-ı Hâssa using the limited amount of reference material
