Günümüzde Tarihi İpek yolu, ‘Yeni İpek Yolu’ ve farklı adlar altında yeniden canlandırılmaya başlanmıştır. Alan yazın incelendiğinde Doğu İpek yolu ile ilgili, çok sayıda yerli ve yabancı bilimsel çalışma yürütüldüğü, ancak İpek Yolu’nun Batısındaki gelişmeler ile ilgili alan yazının sınırlı olduğu görülmüştür. Türkiye coğrafi konumu nedeniyle, Asya ve Avrupa Kıtalarının ortasında yer alan bir ülkedir. Geçmişte İpek Yolunun Doğu ve Batı’sındaki olumlu veya olumsuz gelişmeler Türkiye’yi etkilemiştir. Günümüzde de İpek Yolunun her iki yönündeki gelişmelerin yakından izlenmesi ve karar mekanizmalarında aktif rol alınması önemlidir. Alan yazın incelendiğinde Batı İpek Yolu Turizm girişimleri ile ilgili alan yazının az sayıda yabancı kaynakla sınırlı olduğu görülmüştür. Çalışmanın amacı; Dünya Turizm Örgütü ve Birleşmiş Milletler Eğitim, Bilim ve Kültür Örgütü’nün birlikte yürüttükleri -Batı İpek Yolu- projelerinin amaç, kapsam, hedef ve uygulamaları incelemek ve -Orta Koridorda- yer alan Türkiye’nin yeni oluşumlardaki yerini turizm açısından değerlendirmek olarak belirlenmiştir. Bu amaçla başta Uluslararası Eğitim, Bilim, Kültür Örgütü’nün UNESCO 1988-1997 yılları arasında ‘İpek Yolu Projesi, Bütünleşik İpek Yolu Çalışmaları: Diyalog Yolları’ konulu proje raporu UNESCO Report, 2008 ile ilerleyen evrelerde projeye dahil olan Dünya Turizm Örgütü UNWTO çalışmaları incelenmiş ve turizmi ilgilendiren bölümleri çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Çalışmanın alan yazın bölümünde; Yeni İpek Yolu girişimlerinin isimleri ve tarihi süreçleri, İpek Yolu turizm İlişkisi, Dünya Turizm Örgütünce UNWTO , yürütülen ‘Batı İpek Yolu Potansiyeli’ isimli genel projenin turizm bölümünden yararlanılmıştır. Batı İpek Yolu Projesinin, önemli evreleri tarih, yer ve alınan kararlar kronolojik sıraya göre üç tabloda sunularak açıklanmıştır. Projelerin zamanla, çok uluslu ve uluslararası çalışmalara dönüşmesi nedeniyle çalışmada Doğu İpek Yolu projelerine de yer verilmiştir
Today, the Historic Silk Road has begun to be revived under 'New Silk Road' and different names. When the area was studied in the summer, there was a large number of domestic and foreign scientific studies on the Eastern Silk Road, but the field writing on the developments in the West of the Silk Road was limited. Due to its geographical location, Turkey is a country located in the middle of Asia and the European continents. In the past, positive or negative developments in the east and west of the Silk Road have affected Turkey. Today it is important to closely monitor the developments in both aspects of the Silk Road and to take an active role in the decision-making mechanisms. When the area was studied in summer, it was found that the area of the West Silk Road Tourism initiatives was limited to a small number of foreign sources. The objective of the study is to study the objective, scope, objectives and practices of the projects carried out by the World Tourism Organization and the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization – the West Silk Road – and to evaluate the place of Turkey in the new formations located in the Central Corridor from the point of view of tourism. For this purpose, the UNESCO International Education, Science, and Culture Organization’s project report on the ‘Silk Road Project, Integrated Silk Road Studies: Dialogue Roads’ between 1988-1997 was first studied by the World Tourism Organization UNWTO’s work and the tourism-related sections were included in the work. The area of the study in the summer section; the names and historic processes of the New Silk Road initiatives, Silk Road Tourism Relationship, World Tourism Organization UNWTO, the general project 'West Silk Road Potential' has been exploited by the tourism section. The important stages of the Western Silk Road Project are described by presenting the history, location and decisions taken in three tables according to chronological order. Due to the time, the projects are transformed into multinational and international studies, the work has also included Eastern Silk Road projects.

The important phases of the West Silk Road Project are explained in three tables according to chronological order. Eastern Silk Road projects were also included in the study because of the transformation of projects into multinational and international studies.
