Eleştirel Teori olarak da adlandırılan Frankfurt Okulu, tüm pozitivist kuramları eleştirerek dönüştürmüş ve literatüre önemli katkılar sağlamıştır. Okulun literatüre kattığı kavramlardan biri de hem uluslararası ilişkiler hem de sosyoloji açısından değerlendirilebilecek olan özgürleşme kavramıdır.
Özgürleşme kavramı ile hem kapitalizm sonucunda toplumda meydana gelen yoksulluk, eşitsizlik ve demokrasi kavramlarına dikkat çeken hem de eleştirel açıdan bu sorunların nasıl çözüleceğine dair öneriler sunan Okul, Soğuk Savaş sonrası ortaya çıkan güvenlik algısında da etkili olmuş ve 1990’lı yıllarda güvenliğin daha çok birey üzerine odaklanması gerekliliğinin düşünülmesine zemin hazırlamıştır. 2011 yılında Arap dünyasında meydana gelen ve binlerce kişinin sokağa dökülmesine sebep olan Arap Baharı, Frankfurt Okulu’nun özgürleşme kavramı ile ne anlatmak istediğinin en çarpıcı örneklerinden biri olma niteliğini taşımaktadır.
Kapitalizmin neo-liberal politikalarının etkisiyle, gelir eşitsizliği dahil olmak üzere pek çok insani haklardan mahrum bırakılan Arap halkları sonuç olarak özgürleşme istekleri sebebiyle tüm Arap dünyası ve sonrasında küresel düzeye yayılan bir hareketin öncüsü olmuşlardır.
Bu çalışmada, Arap Baharı, uluslararası sistemde güvenliğin nasıl dönüşüme uğradığı ve özgürleşmenin güvenlik algısı içerisinde nerede konumlandığı bakış açısıyla incelenmiştir. Bütün bunlarla beraber Arap Baharı’nın çıkış sebeplerini üzerinde durulmuş ve özellikle bunlar arasında uluslararası sermayenin etkin rolünün ehemmiyeti gözden uzak tutulmamıştır.
The Frankfurt School, also known as Critical Theory, has transformed all the positivist theories by criticism and has made significant contributions to literature. One of the concepts that the school adds to literature is the concept of liberalization, which can be assessed in terms of both international relations and sociology.
The concept of liberalization, which draws attention to the concepts of poverty, inequality and democracy in society as a result of capitalism and offers suggestions on how to resolve these problems from a critical point of view, has also been effective in the perception of security that emerged after the Cold War and has prepared the ground for the consideration of the need for security to focus more on the individual in the 1990s. The Arab Spring, which took place in the Arab world in 2011 and caused thousands of people to go to the streets, is one of the most impressive examples of what the Frankfurt School wants to tell with the concept of liberation.
Under the influence of the neo-liberal policies of capitalism, the Arab peoples, which were deprived of many human rights, including income inequality, were the pioneers of a movement that spread to the entire Arab world and later to the global level due to the desire for liberation.
In this study, the Arab Spring examined the perspective of how security is transformed in the international system and where liberalization is located within the security perception. All of this, together, focused on the reasons for the outcome of the Arab Spring, and especially among them, the importance of the effective role of international capital has not been ignored.
