Abstract:

Purpose: The Nursing Care Qualification Scale, which assesses self-capacity to cope with professional challenges, has been developed and tested by Caruso and his colleagues. The aim of this study is to adapt the Skill of Qualification for the Nursing Profession to Turkish.Method: The Skill was translated from English to Turkish and then returned to English by a group of specialists and translators. The study was conducted with 205 nurses aged 18 and older working in Afyonkarahisar. Analysis includes the scope validity based on the expert opinion, the explanatory and verifying factor analysis, the internal consistency and immutability analysis.Discussions: the scope validity indicators of the expert opinion range from 0.90 to 1.00. After the factor analysis was done, three materials in the size of Professional Conditions were removed from the original scale. The quality of the care has changed four materials from the lower size to the other size. Thus, the final Turkish version of the scale contains 16 items divided into two dimensions: the characteristics of maintenance conditions eight items and the professional conditions eight items. The matter-total correlation ratio of the scale varies between 0.40 and 0.62. The Spearman-Brown and Guttman ratio is 0.86. The internal consistency ratio is 0.87.Result: The psychometric test results are satisfying in terms of the reliability and validity of the scale for this nursing group. The tool that measures the nurse’s self-capacity to cope with difficulties in the work environment can also be used to predict the clinical performance of the nurse.
