Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine how people learning Turkish as a foreign language in the Balkans learn Turkish through the Balkan Hour program broadcast on TRT Türk channel and to classify the cultural elements in the Balkans. In this study, content analysis method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. Within the scope of the study, 26 episodes of the Balkan Hour program broadcast on TRT Türk channel were analyzed. These chapters are first categorized by country. Within the scope of the watched episodes of the program, cultural elements were examined by considering the cities in North Macedonia (Skopje, Radovic, Tetovo, Tetovo, Struga, Ohrid, Resne-Manastir, Gostivar), Kosovo (Pristina, Prizen, Yakova, Ipek), Albania (Tirana, Iskodër), Montenegro (Podgorica, Bar-Budva, Plav-Rojaye), Serbia (Belgrade, Novi Pazar), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo, Mostar, Yayçe, Srebnitsa), Romania (Bucharest, Constanta, Babadag) and Hungary (Budapest). In line with the analyzes, it was coded under the headings of "Places, Food, Clothes, Songs and Folk Songs, Poets and Writers, Idioms, Proverbs and Sayings, Customs and Traditions". In the relevant sections of the program, the Turkish learning status of the Turkish learners was also recorded and written down by giving codes. As a result of the study, it was determined that individuals start learning Turkish through TV series and movies, and that Turkish courses in the Balkans also facilitate the process of learning Turkish. In addition, it was observed that students who came to Turkey to study at university through YTB scholarships returned to their home countries and applied what they had learned. Although the borders are different today, it has been determined that there are many Ottoman historical sites in the Balkan states and that there are common cultural elements arising from common historical consciousness.
