Abstract:

This study aims to deal with the philosophy of Jean-Paul Sartre, which is extremely influential in 20th century thought, in relation to his theater plays. Sartre's theater is a place where the existentialist philosophy of Sartre is brought to the stage. Here the characters confront the fundamental problems of Sartre's philosophy. Freedom, responsibility, self-determination, the individual who has to choose, and the anxiety caused by all these are at the center of his theater. Characters of his plays are people who experience extreme situations on the basis of the concepts which we have mentioned. Sartre wants to share these border situations with the audience. This study will examine Sartre's plays in the light of these concepts.
