Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the fluent reading and reading comprehension performances of students with a special learning disability using the "Fluent Reading and Reading Comprehension Support Education Program (OKA2DEP)". The research was designed as a cross-sectional survey study, one of the quantitative research methods. In this study, 11 second and third grade students participated and (a) time to read the whole text, (b) number of correct words read in one minute, (c) percentage of correct reading, (d) number of errors made in the whole text and (e) reading comprehension scores of participants were evaluated. Data were collected in 33 sessions with the OKA2DEP. Findings were obtained by calculating the averages of the data obtained as a result of these sessions. According to the findings, the average time of reading the entire text of the participants ranged from “two minutes 32 seconds” to “18 minutes 47 seconds”; the average number of correct words they read in one minute is between “10.66 and 57” words; the averages of correct reading percentages are between “72% and 91%”; the average of the number of errors they made in the whole text is between “19 and 57”; The averages of the data on reading comprehension scores vary between “11 and 78” points. In conclusion; It is understood that determining different variables for fluent reading and reading comprehension skills are important in terms of intervening students through the skills they need.
