Abstract:

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the war between Russia and Ukraine on foreign trade between Turkey and Ukraine. For this purpose, the import and export figures between Turkey and Ukraine were handled on the basis of both quantity and dollar terms for the years 2021 and 2022, and it was investigated whether there was a difference between the foreign trade figures of the years 2021 and 2022. In order to compare the data for 2021 and 2022, the period in which the effects of the war began and continued in 2022 and the same period in 2021 were selected. Four different hypotheses have been formed on the quantity of import, amount of import, quantity of export and amount of export, regarding whether there is a difference in foreign trade before and during the war. Paired-Samples T Test was used to test the hypotheses. As a result of the hypothesis tests, all of the hypotheses were accepted and it was determined that there was a significant difference in foreign trade figures between the pre-war period and the war period. In order to determine which product groups caused the difference in import and export quantities and amounts, the product groups that showed the highest increase or decrease for the years 2021 and 2022 were investigated. The most striking result of the study is; there have been significant increases in the exports of food products, aircraft and vehicles, and equipment belonging to the weapon industry.
