Abstract:

As it is today, Istanbul was the center of cultural and artistic activities in the past in general. Therefore, the prominent artistic and literary magazines that led and shaped the country were always printed in Istanbul. Mihrab, one of these magazines, was in press between 15 Teşrinisani 1339- 1 Nisan1341 (Julian Calendar) and 15 October 1923 – 1 April 1925 (Gregorian Calendar). The director in charge of this magazine which had 28 issues was Agah Mazlum. Mihrab had an important place in terms of its popularity in that era. There were educational and history articles as well as stories, poems, interviews, novels, letters, critics and such. This magazine rich in literary landscapes gave place to poems of prosody and free forms. Mihrab magazine had an important place in terms of reflecting the social, political and literary aspects of the period. In the magazine, there are articles Yusuf Ziya (Yörükhan), Mehmet Emin (Erişigil), Hilmi Ziya (Ülken), Mehmet Emin (Yurdakul) and poem of Necip Fazıl(Kısakürek) who are the prominent intellectuals of the period. In the first years of the republic, there were a number of cultural, artistic and literary magazines that reflected the period. These magazines are resources for the social, political and artistic features of the period. They are a means for the thoughts and feelings of the people of that era towards the republic.
