Abstract:

The Second Legitimate Period in the Ottoman History is an intense stage of organization. The mental and political accumulation since the Lale era, combined with the pursuit and efforts towards the rescue of a devastating state, established numerous associations, communities and political parties. One of the most influential associations of this time is the Ottoman Naval Society. The Ottoman Naval Society was founded on July 19, 1909, with the aim of bringing a strong naval body with the financial donations of individuals. Among the many activities that the community carried out for this purpose, art events such as concerts, theatre and cinema have taken an important place. In our research, the cultural activities of the Ottoman Naval Society have been studied in the framework of archive documents, some results have been achieved. The cultural activities of the community are concerned with the wide participation/contribution of different layers of society. In the range of participation, it is possible to see various professional members from the senior manager to the thin boiler, from the coffee shop to the retired officer. These contributions can be regarded as an intimate effort of each individual to save the state. Furthermore, it can be defended that the cultural activities of the Community are functional in the illustration of the Second Legitimate Period, in terms of its distinctive characteristics.
