Abstract:

The Eastern Black Sea countryside contains original architectural examples formed within the framework of its nature, rural culture and local opportunities. But traditional rural architectural heritage and settlements are becoming depopulated and entering the process of extinction due to laws and regulations, wrong policies, rapid urbanization and infrastructure deficiencies that are insufficient and ineffective in the scope of cultural heritage protection. Considering the rapid deterioration and extinction process experienced by the rural region, the status of traditional rural architectural examples should be determined in detail and analyzed and turned into usable information. Asim Ekşi House, located in Dereköy village of Rize Ikizdere District, examined within the scope of the study, is a typical example of eastern Black Sea rural architecture with its building materials, construction technique and design features. A survey for the current situation of the residence, which contains problems and damage observed in many structures in the rural area of the region, analytical research for damage detection, a restitution proposal for its original design was made. By defining the main principles of intervention in order to protect it with its original architectural components and transfer it to future generations with its original values, it is envisaged to define what needs to be done for the Asim Ekşi House and the examples of rural architecture of the Eastern Black Sea, whose numbers are gradually decreasing today.
