Abstract:

In this study, we will discuss the psychological structure of Ted Bundy, one of the XXth century serial killers by the the archetype ’Anima’, one of the collective subconscious minds of Carl G. Jung's Analytic Psychology approach. Ted Bundy is a serial killer diagnosed with sociopaths and necrophils, who were responsible for more than thirty women in the United States and executed in 1989. Ted Bundy, who had known his real mother for so many years as his sister and the grandfather as his father, spent his childhood years with traumas. The answers to the questions of how Ted Bundy has such a history of childhood influenced the relationships of the opposite sex in his youth and how he triggered the motive of killing was explained by psychoanalysis method. Then, by expanding the boundaries of this intellectual background, the analytical psychology point of view reveals the feminine aspect of man and explores the tragic life. According to Jung, there is a collective subconscious that we inherit as well as physical traits, beyond the personal subconscious. The collective consists of subconscious images, and Jung describes these images as archetypes. These archetypes that regulate the relationships of the individual with the opposite sex are Anima and Animus; the person is able to establish healthy relationships with the opposite sex. It is all about falling in love and finding  the wife  that he is  looking for to discover and reveal the anima or animus within the individual. If this archetype is suppressed, the self-balance deteriorates and one-dimensional shallow personality or psychopathological personalities emerge.
